Marshfield girls basketball surges past Merrill in second half

MERRILL — Marshfield used a big third-quarter run to get past Merrill 56-39 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference girls basketball game Friday night at Merrill High School.

The game was tied 25-25 at halftime before Marshfield ripped off an 18-4 run in the third quarter to take control of the game.

McKayla Scheuer and Natalie Zuelke each had 12 points, and Ema Fehrenbach added 11 points and four assists for Marshfield (15-5, 7-3 Wisconsin Valley Conference). Zuelke came off the bench to make 6 of 7 shots from the field and grab a team-high seven rebounds.

The Tigers held Merrill (5-13, 2-8 Wisconsin Valley Conference) to 16 of 44 shooting from the field. Marshfield also was 10 of 15 from the free throw line, while Merrill was just 1 of 6.

Marshfield hosts D.C. Everest next Friday.
