Assumption tops Stratford boys basketball

STRATFORD — Wisconsin Rapids Assumption pulled ahead in the third quarter and held on to defeat Stratford 43-38 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Thursday night at Stratford High School.

Stratford led 18-16 at halftime before the Royals pulled ahead in the third quarter with a 14-6 run.

Chase Lamp scored 16 points to lead Assumption (10-7, 5-5 Marawood South).

Jake Schmitt had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers, who fall to 10-6, 4-5 Marawood South.

Assumption shot just 13 of 40 from the field but held a 14-6 advantage over Stratford on free throws.

Stratford returns to action Friday with a nonconference home game against Athens.
