STEVENS POINT — Marshfield came back from a seven-point deficit in the final minute, but Stevens Point made four free throws in the final 22 seconds to top the Tigers 63-62 in a wild Wisconsin Valley Conference girls basketball game Friday night at Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH).

Marshfield trailed 59-54 after a basket by Ema Fehrenbach with one minute to go.

The Tigers rallied with five more points following a pair of SPASH turnovers. Ellie Kummer hit a 3-pointer to knot the score at 59-59.

On the inbounds pass, Marshfield was called for a foul, and Abby Bohanski made two free throws.

After a missed shot by the Tigers, Stevens Point scored two more at the free throw line to open up a four-point lead.

Kummer hit another 3-pointer with one second to go, but it was too late for Marshfield, which drops to 13-5 overall and 5-3 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. SPASH is now 9-10 and 5-4 in the conference.

The Tigers’ next game is Tuesday at home against Wisconsin Rapids as part of a girls-boys doubleheader. The girls game starts at 6 p.m. with the boys game to follow at 7:45 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.

Complete game statistics were not provided.
