MARSHFIELD — Sara Riedel opened 2 ½ Cups Cupcakery and Bakeshop on Dec. 10, 2013 and recently celebrated its one year anniversary of serving tasty treats to area residents.
The shop specializes in gourmet cupcakes, custom cakes, and sweet treats.
“Our products are never shipped, never frozen, and are always made fresh. You can order any flavor of cake and filling that you want. We do fondant and cake customization. It’s more like 3D art,” said Riedel.
2 ½ Cups, a member of the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry, donates the week’s remaining
inventory, as accounted for on Saturdays, to local nonprofits. Riedel said that they donate roughly $200 to $300 in products each week.
Mary Stendel, a best friend of Riedel since the fourth grade, is a full-time employee at the shop, which employs a total of eight people.
When asked why she likes 2 ½ Cups, Mary Drexler, a frequent shop customer and Stratford resident, replied, “Sara and Mary are very nice, so it’s always a pleasant place to visit.”
Best-selling cupcake flavors include maple bacon, chocolate lovers, salted caramel, turtle, lemon raspberry, Oreo cookies and cream, and peanut butter cup. Riedel said that her favorite is the peanut butter cup, and Stendel’s favorite is raspberry white chocolate with raspberry filling.
Riedel said the recipes are all created in house, and they are currently working on a dill pickle-flavored cupcake that will be released after perfecting the recipe.
Drexler said, “Everything they have is good. We like the cake balls, muffins, and cookies. Those are the usual things we order. They are all good though.”
With over 70 cake flavors and fillings to choose from, 2 ½ Cups also offers specialty cakes for weddings and other special events. Riedel and Stendel will help design the cakes, deliver them up to 30 miles away, and will set up the cake upon delivery.
Riedel said now is a good time for customers to place orders for Valentine’s Day and wedding cakes. 2 ½ Cups will attend the Simply Bridal 2015 Wedding Expo on March 8 in Marshfield.
When asked what she would recommend to someone who has not been in the shop before, Riedel said, “Come in for a hot cup of coffee and a sweet treat, and take some home for your family and friends.”
“Surely, go and try it. Go and have a cup of coffee and a muffin. It is wonderful. It’s a very nice place in Marshfield,” said Drexler.
2 ½ Cups takes custom orders for all cakes and desserts and can accommodate gluten free or other allergy specifications.

The brochure reads, “Allow us to host your child’s next birthday, or rent our space for your next special occasion. Perfect for get-togethers such as family gatherings, bridal showers, baby showers, conferences or meetings.”
As You Wish party costs are $160 for up to eight children and $15 for each additional child. Room rental is $15 per hour Tuesday through Saturday and $20 per hour on Sundays, Mondays, and after business hours.
