First-place Loyal runs out to quick lead, whips Columbus Catholic girls basketball

MARSHFIELD — Loyal raced out to a 20-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to a 55-25 victory over Marshfield Columbus Catholic in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Tuesday night at Columbus Catholic High School.
Loyal led 22-2 after the first quarter and pushed it to 36-11 by halftime as it rolled to the win. The Greyhounds remain undefeated in the Cloverbelt East, moving to 11-0 (14-2 overall). Columbus Catholic drops to 8-7 and 5-5 in the conference.
The Dons were held to just eight made field goals in the loss. Loyal, on the other hand, made 10 field goals in the first quarter alone. Abby Baierl led the Dons with nine points.
Columbus plays at Spencer on Friday. The game will be broadcast on WOSQ-FM 92.3 and wdlbwosq.com.
