Same day appointing debuts at Marshfield Clinic

MARSHFIELD — Patients who want to see a provider for a quick visit for a nonemergency medical condition now have a new option at Marshfield Clinic as same day appointing begins today at all centers.

Same day appointing is available for all established and new patients. If patients call before noon, an appointment that day will be offered. If patients call after noon, a same day or next day appointment will be offered.

“Patient experience surveys indicate patients need and want options making it easier to access health care,” said Jim Coleman, chief operating officer of Marshfield Clinic. “We’re going to give that to them.”

Same day appointments for short or acute care will be available for most clinic services, including primary and specialty care. Services requiring prior authorization, physicals, and consults will be excluded. Same day appointing does not replace urgent care.

Requests for same day appointments with specific providers will be accommodated when possible. Patients occasionally may see providers other than their primary care provider. Same day providers will complete assessments and treatment plans for acute-care problems.

In some cases patients will be offered an appointment at another nearby center if there is a scheduling conflict. For example, a patient who wanted to see a Family Medicine provider at Weston Center can be offered appointments at Wausau or Stettin centers, if available.

“We’re committed to providing an exceptional patient experience. Being accommodating to patients’ busy and ever-changing schedules is a key part of that,” said Dr. Laura Nelson, chief medical officer.
