AUBURNDALE – Taylor Gotz scored 22 points and had nine rebounds to lead the Auburndale girls basketball team to its sixth-straight Marawood Conference South Division win as it held off Stratford 50-46 on Friday night at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale (13-2 overall, 7-1 Marawood South) won its fourth in a row overall and pull into a tie for first place with Marathon in the conference after completing a two-game season sweep of Stratford (12-5, 5-4 Marawood South).

Auburndale led 26-16 at halftime for the Tigers came back in the second half to make a game of it. Stratford outscored Auburndale 30-24 in the second half, but came out short.

Macie Frueh had 24 points to top Stratford.

The Tigers were hurt by poor free throw shooting, missing 10 of their 18 attempts. Auburndale was 16 of 25 from the line.

Stratford hosts Athens in a nonconference game Tuesday, and Auburndale’s next game is Thursday at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
