New Visions’ Fun d’ Arts Affaire celebrates the WPA

MARSHFIELD — New Visions Gallery’s Fun d’ Arts Affaire, an annual fundraiser in support of the gallery’s nonprofit mission, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 5:30-11 p.m. at RiverEdge Golf Course in Marshfield.

Fun d’ Arts 2015 will feature a live auction, two silent auctions, fine dining, swinging music by Hub City Jazz, and many other surprises.

As is tradition, a visual arts-based theme is selected for Fun d’ Arts and is illustrated through festive decorations, music, and auction items. For Fun d’ Arts 2015, event chairs Jo Horton, Debi McCullough, and Kathleen Rulka selected the Works Progress Administration (WPA) for its spirit of creativity in the face of adversity.

During one of the worst economic periods in United States history, the government chose to support the arts. As a part of the Works Progress Administration Federal Art Project (1935-1943), 475,000 works of art were created with government support, plays and performances were attended by 30 million people, 225,000 concerts were held for audiences totaling 150 million, and 276 full-length books were written.

Over 100 community centers held art classes for children and adults, encouraging them to express themselves with creativity. In addition, artists were employed to assist with the design of parks and roads, architecture, and the iconic “See America” posters of the time.

The WPA will be a theme through Fun d’ Arts live and silent auctions. Auction prizes will include original art, classes, gift items, excursions, dining opportunities, and personal services. Auction items may be previewed at biddingforgood.com/fundarts2015. Guests may also learn more about WPA art projects and get ideas if they wish to dress to the theme for the event at Pinterest.com/NVGallery.

Individuals who are unable to attend Fun d’ Arts 2015 can still participate. A variety of auction items will be available exclusively online at biddingforgood.com/fundarts2015.

Funds raised at the event account for more than one-third of the annual operating income of New Visions Gallery and the nonprofit community programming it provides. New Visions Gallery’s mission is to provide opportunities to experience the visual arts through exhibits, permanent collections, the gallery shop, and educational offerings.

Tickets for Fun d’ Arts are $85 ($40 of which may be considered a tax-deductible donation) and are available in New Visions Gallery, located in Marshfield Clinic. Hours are Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. For more information contact the gallery office at 715-387-5562 or email [email protected]
