MARSHFIELD — The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team took first-place UW-Marinette to the wire, but a layup at the buzzer lifted the Lady Bucs to a 56-54 victory over the Marauders on Thursday night at the Marauder Gym.

The Marauders are now 8-7 overall and 7-4 in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference.

The Marauders led 31-30 at halftime, and the game was tight throughout before the buzzer-beater sent them to their third-straight loss.

Taylor Lynn had 20 points and seven rebounds, Paige Newman added nine points and eight rebounds, and Katie Meacham had nine points for UW-Marshfield.

The Marauders shot just 26.5 percent (18 of 68) from the field in the loss.

UW-Marshfield also struggled shooting on Wednesday. The Marauders were just 27 percent from the floor (17 of 63) in a 52-41 loss at UW-Fox Valley in Menasha.

The Cyclones held a 54-39 rebounding advantage in the victory.

Meacham and Mikayla Jankowski each had 11 points to lead the Marauders.
