Auburndale wrestling team falls short against Athens

AUBURNDALE — Auburndale’s Kurt Jankowski won by pin, and Paul Willfahrt won by technical fall, but the Apaches dropped a 39-33 decision to Athens in a Marawood Conference wrestling dual meet Thursday at Auburndale High School.

Jankowski pinned Jordan Zinkowich in just 21 seconds in the 182-pound match, and Willfahrt routed Devon Diethelm 15-0 at 152 for two of Auburndale’s wins.

Other winners for Auburndale included Dylan Altmann by major decision at 126, Wyatt Weiler at 170, Kaleb Bolder at 285, and Matt Leick (106) and Readi Meyer (113) by forfeit.

Auburndale will take part in the Hillsboro Tournament on Saturday.

152: Paul Willfahrt (AUB) won by technical fall over Devon Diethelm 15-0.
160: Nate Morse (AT) def. Keller Wolfe 7-6.
170: Wyatt Weiler (AUB) def. Marshall Westfall 13-7.
182: Kurt Jankowski (AUB) pinned Jordan Zinkowich in 0:21.
195: Tucker Roesler (AT) pinned Sam Hasenohrl in 0:21.
220: Dakota Venske (AT) won by forfeit.
285: Kaleb Bolder (AUB) def. Tyson Sommer 3-2.
