UW-Marshfield/Wood County basketball teams both lose at UW-Rock County

JANESVILLE — The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County basketball teams dropped a pair of Wisconsin Collegiate Conference games at UW-Rock County on Saturday.

The Marauders women fell behind early and lost 83-68. The men suffered a 105-97 loss in a shootout Saturday afternoon.

In the women’s game, UW-Marshfield fell behind 45-23 at halftime. The Marauders cut the deficit to 11 in the second half but could not get closer than that.

The Marauders held a 60-39 rebounding advantage but committed 28 turnovers and only shot 36 percent (27 of 74) in the loss.

Brooke Schultze had 21 points, and Paige Newman added 12 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists for the Marauders.

UW-Marshfield led 48-47 at halftime of the men’s game but gave up second half 58 points in suffering the loss.

The Marauders turned the ball over 34 times.

Joseph Estrict had 30 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists for the Marauders before fouling out. Covon Rudolph added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Derrick Shivers had 21 points and nine rebounds for Marshfield.

The Marauders women will host UW-Fox Valley on Monday, and both teams will travel to UW-Richland on Wednesday.
