WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Marshfield Columbus Catholic basketball teams were swept by Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Saturday at the Cranberry Classic at Assumption High School.

The Dons girls lost 39-23, and Assumption beat the Columbus boys 52-46.

In the girls game, Assumption held Columbus scoreless in the second quarter to open up a 19-7 halftime lead. The Dons (3-2) played fairly even with the Royals (2-1) in the second half but could not erase the deficit.

Abby Baierl had 15 of the Dons’ 23 points in the loss.

The Assumption boys (2-0) led 42-27 after three quarters before the Dons rallied in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to single digits.

Sophomore Tyler Fuerlinger had 17 points, and Hunter Schultz added nine for Columbus (1-2) in the loss.

Nine Royals scored with Chase Lamp leading the balanced attack with nine points.

The Columbus boys will open its Cloverbelt Conference East Division schedule Tuesday when it plays at Loyal. The Columbus girls are back in action Thursday at home against Spencer.
