Western Tech sweeps UW-Marshfield/Wood County basketball teams

MARSHFIELD — Western Technical College (La Crosse) swept a pair of nonconference games from the University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County basketball teams on Wednesday.
WTC won the men’s game 77-60 and the women’s game 78-60.
The Marauders women are now 3-2, while the men’s team falls to 3-4. Both will travel to Janesville to play UW-Rock County in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference games Saturday. The women’s game starts at 1 p.m., with the men’s game to follow at approximately 3 p.m.
WOMEN
Western Technical College 78, UW-Marshfield/Wood County 60
The Marauders trailed 35-34 at halftime but saw WTC open up a double-digit lead in the second half and pull away for the victory.
Marshfield shot just 31.8 percent (21 of 66) and committed 28 turnovers in the loss.
Taylor Lynn scored 17 points and had six rebounds, Brooke Schultze added 10 poitns and 10 rebounds, and Mikayla Jankowski had seven points and 11 rebounds for the Marauders.
Mickayla Verthein had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead WTC.

UW-Marshfield shot just 31 percent (17 of 55) and couldn’t overcome an early deficit in losing at home.
WTC led 36-29 at halftime and pushed the lead to double digits in the second half.
Derrick Shivers had 18 points and seven rebounds, making 8 of 12 from the free throw line, to lead the Marauders. Covon Rudolph and Hunter Busse each added 13 points.
Twelve of the 13 players that played for WTC scored, with Christopher Krueger leading the Cavaliers with 12 points.
