Marshfield boys hockey falls to Chippewa Falls in opener

MARSHFIELD — Chippewa Falls scored three goals in the final 4:14 to push past Marshfield 5-2 in a nonconference boys hockey game Monday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Center.
The game was the season opener for both teams.
Marshfield led 1-0 on a goal by Conner Sandok midway through the first period. After Chippewa Falls tied it, the Tigers pulled ahead again when Jacob Draves scored with 6:38 to go in the second period.
The Cardinals rallied to tie it again and then blanked Marshfield in the third period as they pulled away late.
Jordan Steinmetz had a goal and two assists, and Landon Mueller scored twice for the Cardinals.
Chippewa Falls dominated play, outshooting Marshfield 57-10. Marshfield goalie Haydon Roy-Peterson had 53 saves.
Marshfield will compete at the Tomah Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
