MARSHFIELD — Dr. Narayana Murali was elected Marshfield Clinic’s executive director Tuesday night during a meeting of the Clinic’s Class A Members.

Dr. Murali will officially take the position Monday, Dec. 15, following the Marshfield Clinic Health System Board of Directors meeting scheduled for Dec. 12.

Dr. Murali, a nephrologist who has served as Marshfield Clinic Board chair since March, replaces Brian Ewert, M.D., who left the executive director position in October.

The Clinic physician executive director, in coordination with Marshfield Clinic Health System, Inc. chief executive officer, performs executive duties of the Clinic. This is a hired, permanent position and the physician elected remains in that role until retirement, resignation or being relieved of duties by the System Board.

Dr. Daniel Erickson, Clinic Board vice chair who practices at the Rice Lake Center, will fill the chair position until elections are conducted by the Class A Members in January.

Murali is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Federation for Medical Research, American Heart Association, American Medical Association, American Society of Nephrology, National Association of Inpatient Physicians and Renal Physicians Association.

He earned a medical degree from the University of Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, and completed internal medicine residencies at Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington, PA, Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, Rochester, MN. He completed a nephrology fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.
