NEILLSVILLE – For the first time in a conference match this season, the Spencer volleyball team found itself down.

However, the Rockets were far from out and rallied to beat Neillsville 3-1 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Thursday night at Neillsville High School.

Neillsville won the first game 25-16 before Spencer cruised to win the next three, 25-6, 25-16, 25-16, to improve to 6-0 in the Cloverbelt East. Neillsville is now 4-2.

Macie Weber had 15 kills and three blocks, Jenna Schober had 36 digs and Brooke Kettleborough had 29 assists and two aces to lead the Rockets.

Abby Varsho added nine kills and two blocks, Courtney Buss had 24 digs and Julia Berres also had two aces for Spencer.

“We started really slow in Game 1, but once our defense picked up in Game 2, we controlled the match,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “Our entire group of sophomores elevated their games tonight.”

Spencer plays at the Reedsburg Invitational on Saturday before returning to Cloverbelt East action at home Tuesday against Greenwood. Greenwood is 5-0 in conference play.
