EDGAR –Stratford was unable to get anything going in the run game and Edgar took advantage of a big play early to knock off the Tigers 18-7 in a battle of Marawood Conference unbeatens Friday night at Edgar High School.

Austin Borchardt caught a 62-yard touchdown pass from Matt Urmanski on the game’s sixth play and Kaleb Wolf ran in a two-point conversion to put Edgar up 8-0.

The lead held until the fourth quarter when Wylie Frahm had a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Wildcats a 15-0 lead.

Kam Bornbach had Stratford’s only score, on a 1-yard touchdown run with just under 8 minutes to go, but the Tigers couldn’t get any closer.

Wolf added a 34-yard field goal with 1:58 left to provide the final score.

The Tigers (3-2, 2-1 Marawood) were held to 41 yards rushing on 34 carries. Michael Bargender completed 10 of 18 passes for 90 yards, but threw two interceptions.

Stratford was stout defensively, other than that first touchdown pass from Edgar (5-0, 4-0 Marawood). The Wildcats managed just 120 yards after that score and also turned the ball over twice.

Stratford is back in action next Friday at Chequamegon (3-2, 2-2 Marawood).
